00:00:04 00:00:05 Kinnick High School,
00:00:05 00:00:08 a Department of Defense Education Activity school
00:00:08 00:00:10 at Yokosuka Naval Base
00:00:10 00:00:13 is making a push to increase competitiveness
00:00:13 00:00:16 with international schools in the fields of science,
00:00:16 00:00:19 technology, engineering, and mathematics education
00:00:20 00:00:22 by offering a gaming technology pilot course
00:00:22 00:00:26 and an animation course. Students recently visited
00:00:26 00:00:29 Tactical Training Group Pacific Detachment Yokosuka
00:00:29 00:00:32 to witness war gaming first hand.
00:00:32 00:00:35 Robert Tiffany said their visit gives the students a glimpse
00:00:35 00:00:38 at what types of opportunities they may have
00:00:38 00:00:41 in a career in engineering and technology.
00:00:41 00:00:43 Today they were able to apply
00:00:43 00:00:46 what they've seen and done in the classroom
00:00:46 00:00:50 to actual simulations that the military does on a routine basis.
00:00:50 00:00:53 So hopefully what we've shown them
00:00:53 00:00:56 is what they're doing by creating games,
00:00:56 00:00:59 gaming is one piece of it, but there's a bigger picture
00:00:59 00:01:01 that they can get involved with as well.
00:01:01 00:01:05 We have four new projects. We have the gaming technology
00:01:05 00:01:06 which is going on right now.
00:01:06 00:01:10 We also are piloting an engineering class
00:01:10 00:01:12 which is a robotics class.
00:01:12 00:01:14 We're piloting green technology
00:01:14 00:01:19 and we're also piloting biotechnology within the DoDEA schools.
00:01:19 00:01:21 William Rossi said high school students today
00:01:22 00:01:27 will lead us into the next 20-30 years of war game technology.
00:01:27 00:01:31 We won war games and simulations to train the ships
00:01:31 00:01:33 of the forward deployed naval force.
00:01:33 00:01:36 I grew up playing games like Pong and Defender,
00:01:37 00:01:39 and as modeling and simulation
00:01:39 00:01:44 gets more prevalent in Navy training,
00:01:44 00:01:47 we're going to need the next generation of experts
00:01:47 00:01:49 in war gaming.
00:01:49 00:01:54 Petty Officer Adrian White, Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan.
