00:00:26 00:00:30 Join many in the dream of sharing in the celebration,
00:00:30 00:00:32 the dream of dancing together
00:00:33 00:00:35 of welcoming the world to our home.
00:00:37 00:00:39 Now the time has come.
00:00:39 00:00:41 Now the dream is real.
00:00:42 00:00:45 What are you doing to be a great host?
00:00:46 00:00:50 South Africa: Alive with Possibility.
00:01:09 00:01:17 Friends, may I introduce his Excellency Trevor Manuel,
00:01:17 00:01:22 he is a Minister of the National Planning Commission of South Africa
00:01:22 00:01:29 for the Davos Kick-Off of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
00:01:30 00:01:31 Trevor?
00:01:36 00:01:38 Thank you very much, Professor Schwab.
00:01:39 00:01:41 You know in many ways, we as South Africans
00:01:41 00:01:46 have as a single team raised the profile about country here at Davos.
00:01:47 00:01:51 We’re glad to see so many of you wearing your scarves identifying with us.
00:01:51 00:01:57 This kick-off is very important to us because the World Cup in 2010
00:01:57 00:01:58 is South African
00:01:58 00:02:01 but more importantly it’s African.
00:02:02 00:02:05 Amongst the team playing here today
00:02:06 00:02:11 is the prime minister of our neighboring Zimbabwe, Morgan Tsvangirai.
00:02:18 00:02:22 Never has a sports event being more important in the life of a country.
00:02:23 00:02:25 It’s not just sports event.
00:02:25 00:02:29 It’s about claiming an opportunity for all emanative things
00:02:29 00:02:31 in the way in which development has gone.
00:02:32 00:02:33 We have our stadiums ready.
00:02:33 00:02:36 So many big events don’t have the stadiums ready.
00:02:37 00:02:39 Games had been played in all of our stadiums.
00:02:39 00:02:41 The cars had been seated.
00:02:41 00:02:42 We are ready
00:02:43 00:02:45 and that’s a very important message to say to you
00:02:45 00:02:46 we are ready.
00:02:47 00:02:49 But hosting sports events is only one of the things that we can do.
00:02:50 00:02:54 More importantly, we’re country and the region that is open for business.
00:02:55 00:02:59 A part of the message to you is to join us and join the games with us
00:02:59 00:03:02 but more importantly we want you to understand
00:03:03 00:03:07 just how important the investment opportunities on the African continent are
00:03:07 00:03:10 We’re grateful the Professor Schwab
00:03:10 00:03:13 on the way it had afforded us the opportunity
00:03:14 00:03:17 firstly to host this kick-off so that you can be here with us
00:03:17 00:03:19 and I’m going to ask to all of our players
00:03:19 00:03:21 Lucas Radebe and Mark Fish
00:03:21 00:03:24 to actually pass the balls that we see the kick-off.
00:03:24 00:03:25 And secondly,
00:03:25 00:03:28 we want to invite you to join us this evening.
00:03:28 00:03:33 The soiree this evening is great to be a special South African event.
00:03:33 00:03:37 We’re going to feel Africa and we’re going to have
00:03:37 00:03:39 an African wonderfully good time.
00:03:39 00:03:41 And then by the way –
00:03:42 00:03:44 hi.
00:03:52 00:03:55 This afternoon at the Belvedere 03 there will be a screening
00:03:55 00:04:00 at two o’clock of the film entitled More Than Just a Game.
00:04:01 00:04:04 Many parts of South Africa put it together and
00:04:05 00:04:07 so yes we have very competent soccer players.
00:04:08 00:04:10 But one of the things that soccer had meant
00:04:10 00:04:16 to the many great South Africans incarcerated on Robben Island
00:04:16 00:04:19 was that soccer was something we’re fighting for
00:04:19 00:04:21 because it was a Saturday recreation.
00:04:22 00:04:23 The movie is actually about
00:04:24 00:04:27 that part of soccer in the development of South Africans.
00:04:27 00:04:31 So we’d like to invite you to join us for that movie at the Belvedere 03
00:04:32 00:04:34 at two o’clock this afternoon.
00:04:34 00:04:39 But now to get the kick-off underway, Rue, where is Fish?
00:04:39 00:04:41 Come on, get the ball going on.
00:05:04 00:05:06 So we’re going to follow to sing you this afternoon and tonight
00:05:06 00:05:08 t and join with us. It’s a great time.
00:05:09 00:05:11 It’s a fun time but it’s very special in our lives.
00:05:11 00:05:13 Thank you very much.
