| 00:00:00 |
00:00:02 |
India, as a nation,
is a wonder. |
| 00:00:03 |
00:00:05 |
It is much more complex
than Europe. |
| 00:00:06 |
00:00:10 |
When we look at the races that are there,
people groups that are there, |
| 00:00:11 |
00:00:13 |
religions that are there,
cultures that are there. |
| 00:00:13 |
00:00:15 |
But India remains
as one nation. |
| 00:00:15 |
00:00:17 |
That is an amazing wonder. |
| 00:00:18 |
00:00:20 |
It has over
1 Billion people. |
| 00:00:21 |
00:00:23 |
Let me put that in a
very simplistic manner. |
| 00:00:23 |
00:00:26 |
Cut United States of America
into 3 pieces, |
| 00:00:26 |
00:00:29 |
and take one piece
and put in that one piece, |
| 00:00:30 |
00:00:32 |
three times
of American population there. |
| 00:00:32 |
00:00:38 |
That is India. Such thickly,
dense populate country, is India. |
| 00:00:38 |
00:00:42 |
Or 1 Billion people.
So, quite often I say, |
| 00:00:42 |
00:00:45 |
India is the country
that God loves 2nd most, |
| 00:00:46 |
00:00:50 |
next only to China,
who is a little ahead of us in population. |
| 00:00:50 |
00:00:55 |
And so, population wise, demographically,
India is a big nation. |
| 00:00:56 |
00:01:02 |
And it's a democracy. And democratic system
is quite grounded, well grounded in India. |
| 00:01:02 |
00:01:04 |
And that works well. |
| 00:01:04 |
00:01:06 |
And India has come of age,
I would say. |
| 00:01:06 |
00:01:10 |
India is a nuclear power now,
and the nations in the world, |
| 00:01:10 |
00:01:14 |
pay attention to
the voice of India, today. |
| 00:01:14 |
00:01:17 |
And then when we come to
science and technology, |
| 00:01:17 |
00:01:21 |
India is doing amazingly well
in this field. |
| 00:01:21 |
00:01:25 |
Talk about information technology,
or computer engineering, |
| 00:01:26 |
00:01:30 |
India has become the hub
of the new science and technology. |
| 00:01:30 |
00:01:34 |
So, India has a great voice
in the world today. |
| 00:01:35 |
00:01:37 |
Amazing things are happening
in India today. |
| 00:01:37 |
00:01:41 |
Especially, north India, where thousands
and ten thousands of people |
| 00:01:42 |
00:01:44 |
are turning to the gospel,
to Jesus Christ, these days. |
| 00:01:45 |
00:01:48 |
Especially, from the people group
called 'dalits.' |
| 00:01:49 |
00:01:52 |
'Dalit' literally means 'broken.'
Broken by the social system. |
| 00:01:53 |
00:01:57 |
Demoralized, oppressed,
dehumanized people. |
| 00:01:57 |
00:01:58 |
For thousands of years. |
| 00:01:59 |
00:02:02 |
For them, the Gospel is a
good news. |
| 00:02:02 |
00:02:06 |
It says, you are important.
You are created in God's image. |
| 00:02:07 |
00:02:11 |
And not only that you are created
in God's image, God loves you. |
| 00:02:11 |
00:02:15 |
He has loved you so much so
that he has sent his son, |
| 00:02:15 |
00:02:17 |
Jesus Christ, to die for your sake.
And to save you. |
| 00:02:18 |
00:02:20 |
And that clicks very well
with the dalit people. |
| 00:02:21 |
00:02:23 |
And they turn to the Gospel,
for humanity. |
| 00:02:23 |
00:02:27 |
For a human identity,
right here in this world. |
| 00:02:27 |
00:02:30 |
They also know that the Gospel
promises us eternal life. |
| 00:02:30 |
00:02:34 |
So, life in its fullness,
is offered in Jesus Christ. |
| 00:02:34 |
00:02:38 |
No wonder, Jesus said
'I am the way, the truth, and the life.' |
| 00:02:38 |
00:02:42 |
And that promise of life
attracts thousands of people |
| 00:02:43 |
00:02:45 |
from the dalit background
to the Gospel, these days. |
| 00:02:46 |
00:02:49 |
The Church is growing very fast
in India today, in an explosive manner. |
| 00:02:50 |
00:02:53 |
And there are many who believe
that the Christians will number |
| 00:02:53 |
00:02:59 |
more than 50 million.
That is almost 5% of India's population. |
| 00:02:59 |
00:03:02 |
In different parts of India,
Christian missionaries are beaten up. |
| 00:03:02 |
00:03:05 |
Christian stars are beaten up.
Their Churches are being burnt. |
| 00:03:05 |
00:03:07 |
All kinds of Bibles
are burnt. |
| 00:03:07 |
00:03:11 |
And the Christian missionary duties
are opposed and resisted. |
| 00:03:11 |
00:03:15 |
And, there are times when even
some of them lose their lives as well. |
| 00:03:16 |
00:03:18 |
The wisdom of martyrdom. |
| 00:03:19 |
00:03:22 |
But, that is quite normal
for the Church. |
| 00:03:22 |
00:03:25 |
Nothing unusual is happening
when the Church is growing, |
| 00:03:26 |
00:03:29 |
in a predominantly
non-Christian context, as it is in India. |
| 00:03:30 |
00:03:33 |
India is the land of languages.
We have 18 major languages. |
| 00:03:34 |
00:03:38 |
And, over 2000 dialects,
spoken by millions of people. |
| 00:03:39 |
00:03:42 |
So, that is a big challenge,
again, for Christian missionaries. |
| 00:03:42 |
00:03:46 |
How to make the Gospel,
the Bible, available for these people. |
| 00:03:46 |
00:03:50 |
Those who can read, we need to
translate the Bible and put in their hands. |
| 00:03:50 |
00:03:53 |
Those who can not read,
we have to make oral Bibles. |
| 00:03:54 |
00:03:58 |
And, both are happening but I must say that
we have not yet come to the challenges fully. |
| 00:04:00 |
00:04:02 |
There was a time when India
was receiving missionaries. |
| 00:04:03 |
00:04:05 |
But almost a hundred years ago,
the picture began to change. |
| 00:04:07 |
00:04:11 |
Different States in India,
which are conducted by themselves, so to say, |
| 00:04:12 |
00:04:16 |
culture wise, have begun to send
missionaries to other parts of India. |
| 00:04:16 |
00:04:19 |
Now, we have south India
missionaries flooding north India. |
| 00:04:20 |
00:04:23 |
We have missionaries from northeast India
come down to the plains of India. |
| 00:04:23 |
00:04:26 |
And more than that,
from India, missionaries are going |
| 00:04:27 |
00:04:30 |
to other parts of the world,
especially to southeast Asian countries. |
| 00:04:31 |
00:04:33 |
Even east Asian countries.
Go to Cambodia. |
| 00:04:34 |
00:04:37 |
You will find Christian missionaries
from India, there. |
| 00:04:37 |
00:04:40 |
You go to England, you can find
missionaries from India, |
| 00:04:40 |
00:04:45 |
working among the whites as well as
Indian diaspora, in England and Europe. |
| 00:04:46 |
00:04:49 |
In the east,
a sending county today. |
